This Month is Holiday Toys and Eye Safety Month

The holidays are just around the corner and that means Erector Sets for some, and Barbie dolls for others. Well intentioned family members enjoy treating the children to the coolest toys for the holidays.
It is necessary that parents instruct relatives about the restrictions about toy safety and vision. Injuries involving toys often take place, occasionally causing blindness.

What can parents do to safeguard small children from toy related injury?

  1. Only purchase gifts which are developmentally suitable. Don't permit little children to play with toys meant for older siblings.

  2. Teach children the safe use of new toys and games. Prior to play, carefully look at new toys and games for sharp or pointed edges.

  3. Watch little children when they play.

  4. Protect little eyes by tossing out toys that have points, spikes, rods or firing projectiles like BB guns.

Before buying the latest toy that your kids have been pleading with you for, spend a few minutes to read up on eye safety guidelines when it comes to children's toys and games. The holidays are a great time for creating special moments with your family members, not the doctor on staff at the local hospital. Happy Holidays.
